Professor Charles Docherty is the Director of the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) at the Aga Khan University, Pakistan.
Recently awarded the endowed Chair in “Teaching with Technology”, Professor Docherty has always been an innovative educator, whose research interests have paralleled his career development. After an initial 9 years of clinical practice in Glasgow since 1988, Prof Docherty carved out a career in education in Glasgow Caledonian University, where he was responsible for major educational innovations. In 2008, he was appointed as the Director of Clinical Simulation, RCSI Bahrain, gaining professorship and being appointed Head of School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2010. He also established a training centre in Bahrain for advanced clinical simulation. In 2011, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from RCSI, for his contributions to healthcare education. After a 2-year spell in University of Sharjah as Head of Nursing, Professor Docherty returned to his academic interests in clinical simulation as Director of CIME: an exciting role that extends to 7 countries including the UK, Pakistan and East Africa, developing state-of-the-art simulation infrastructure across multiple locations.
