Synonym(s):
Speech Therapy

Patients experiencing swallowing and/or communication difficulties due to various conditions may undergo speech therapy assessments and interventions by Speech Therapists (STs). These conditions can include stroke, Parkinson's Disease, dementia, Head and Neck cancer.

STs can assess and provide therapy interventions for the following areas:

  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
  • Communication difficulties such as Speech (dysarthria),
  • Language (aphasia),
  • Cognitive-communicationVoice deficits (dysphonia)

STs also provide education to patients and family on management of swallowing and/or communication difficulties as part of our holistic care.

STs in SCH also work closely with our acute hospital counterparts to enhance patient care with provision of specialized services such as instrumental assessments, e.g., Videofluroscopic Swallow Study.
