Realising the Needs for Living Well
It is estimated that more than 150,000 people in Singapore would be diagnosed with dementia by 2030. We want to take a preventive approach towards dementia, and introduce cognitive intervention programmes so that rehabilitation goes beyond physical functional abilities.
At SCH, we care for our patients with dementia through:
- Leveraging technology such as introducing assistive robots to patients with dementia
- Reminiscence activities to encourage multi-sensory engagement to improve communication, relieve
negative emotions and allow patients to restore a sense of belonging
- Creating a dementia-friendly environment that is accessible, comfortable and safeInter-professional education series to educate healthcare professionals on better care for patients with dementia
- Caregiver support and networking with community partners to render post-discharge support
- Ongoing research to guide development and training needs for staff and cognitive simulation activities for patients with dementia
