Synonym(s):

Meet our inspiring National Day Award 2025 winners - extraordinary individuals whose dedication and heart have touched the lives of our patients at SCH.

A/Prof Gan Wee Hoe, Chief Executive Officer, SCH
A/Prof Gan illustrates the spirit of dedicated public service, having devoted nearly two decades of his life serving in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). His experience has made him appreciate the impact one can make in public service.

After his time at SAF, he was drawn to join SingHealth because of a strong desire to continue contributing in healthcare. This transition from a career in the military to healthcare leadership shows his unwavering commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Looking back at his journey in public service, A/Prof Gan says: “I am most proud to be working alongside our dedicated healthcare professionals who share the same ethos of respect, fighting spirit, and team excellence.”

Dr Loo Yu Xian, Medical Director, OCH and Director, SCH Supportive and Palliative Care Service
Dr Loo exemplifies the heart and soul of being compassionate through his leadership at OCH. A key contributor to establishing the SCH supportive and palliative care services, he has always believed in the importance of bringing comfort and dignity to palliative patients and their families.

Dr Loo has also demonstrated that compassionate care can be further enhanced by strong collaboration with like-minded partners. For example, SCH partners the Hospice Council Association (HCA) at SingHealth Tower to engage our palliative patients with unique activities such as dog therapy.

"There is something deeply meaningful about making a difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones," shared Dr Loo, who sees being a healthcare professional as a “sacred privilege” rather than just another profession.

Dr Catherine Chan, Senior Consultant, Post-Acute and Continuing Care, SKCH
Dr Catherine Chan found her way into medicine by chance, but it turned out to be her true calling. Now a Senior Consultant, she brings both skill and heart to her work.

From being an integral member of the team that transformed Bright Vision Community Hospital into a COVID-19 facility to spearheading dementia care initiatives, her contributions to the public healthcare have been remarkable.

Dr Catherine believes that open-mindedness is important for patient care, strong teamwork and communication with patients. As she wisely says: "A '6' becomes a '9' when viewed from the opposite side. This reminds us that what we think is true may appear entirely different from someone else’s perspective or vantage point."

As an Occupational Therapist, Chen Ju focuses on helping patients to regain functional abilities so that they can perform activities of daily living after they discharge and return home.

Her genuine care for her patients and strong dedication to their wellbeing have made a lasting impact on many lives.

Having worked in public healthcare for 12 years, Queeny brings her experience, knowledge and expertise to contribute to operational excellence. Her work in ensuring smooth operations - from smooth patient transfers to facilitating timely and safe meals – demonstrates the importance of healthcare administrators working behind the scenes.

"Health is our most precious asset," Queeny reflected, "And healthcare is where we come together as guardians of that treasure, helping each person protect and nurture their wellbeing."

Through countless days and nights, the team’s unwavering dedication and resilience helped protect our nation during its hour of need.
