They are the newest members of the SCH family! While they won't be joining us for lunch, they'll be showing up faithfully for every BCLS class. As the SCH LIFE Centre's resident mannequins, they're always ready – no complaints, no sick days, and absolutely no judgement.
From Idea to Reality
Three years in the making, the SCH LIFE Centre is a fully equipped training facility and also SCH's newest commitment to our patients and staff.
It all started with a simple question from the nursing team - how do we make learning lifesaving skills feel real, practical, and build confidence in our team?
During the setting up process, the team had to figure out the logistics without compromising on quality. There were plenty of "back to the drawing board" moments, but the team pushed through with close collaboration and creative problem-solving.
Nurse Educator Tee Yong Ming, Programme Director, shared that the goal of the Centre was simple, “It is to be a dedicated space where staff can practise their life-saving skills, learn from mistakes safely and build real confidence before facing actual emergencies. The mannequins are very forgiving!”
Between the five of them, they are patient and ready to be practised on as many times as it takes!

Our People First
With the launch of the Centre at SKCH, staff can get Basic Cardiac Life Support training and also get recertified, making the process more accessible and less disruptive.
But the SCH LIFE Centre is more than just a training facility. It also reflects our commitment to our staff by building a culture of continuous learning, professional excellence, and readiness.
Yong Ming shared the importance of staff getting their certifications, “BCLS may sometimes feel like “just another requirement,” but it is really a skill that can make a life-saving difference. The more we practise, the more it becomes second nature, so when the moment comes, we do not have to think, we just act. Every second counts and makes the difference between life and death.”
And this is just the beginning – the vision is for the SCH LIFE Centre to grow into a broader clinical learning hub, eventually extending to healthcare partners and the wider community.
| Fun Fact! Here is a fun behind-the-scenes fact: the entirety of the SCH LIFE Centre spans two rooms, one of which used to be a Sakae Sushi outlet. During renovations, the team nicknamed it the "Sakae Sushi side" to tell the rooms apart and it quickly became our unofficial wayfinding system! It's a small but fitting reminder of how much the space has transformed. From sushi to simulation! |
