Dr Sungwon Yoon is a population health and health services researcher at Duke-NUS Medical School. Her research interests include innovative health behavior interventions and care models to redesign chronic illness management; translational research aimed at improving patient experience and optimizing healthcare delivery; and social determinants of health and health disparities in underserved populations. She has expertise and methodological training in qualitative, mixed-methods, and implementation science. Her current research projects include developing and implementing a personalized behavioral intervention utilizing AI-enabled mobile technology for patients with diabetes and their families; assessing the implementation of an AI-enabled prescription advisory tool for type 2 diabetes management; evaluating an AI-powered online mental health platform tailored to the needs of working adults; studying social risk factors in low-income working mothers to improve health outcomes and equity; and analyzing emergency calls to address  gender disparities in bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation and ultimately improve outcomes in emergency medical response. In addition to her role in research, she teaches courses and workshops on qualitative and mixed methods, and actively mentors graduate medical students. She received her doctoral training from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and served as a policy analyst at Korea Development Institute, a national think tank, and National Assembly prior to joining academia.
