Assistant Professor Sung earned her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the San Diego State University/University of California San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. She received specialty training in cognitive behavioural therapy at Columbia University Medical Centre and the American Institute of Cognitive Therapy in New York City. Prior to moving to Singapore, she held faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School.

Dr Sung is an expert in cognitive behavioural and mindfulness based therapies. Her research investigates innovative strategies to improve care for patients with mood, anxiety, and stress-related conditions. She has published numerous peer reviewed articles, editorials and book chapters, as well as a practitioner guide entitled 10-Minute CBT: Integrating Cognitive Behavioural Strategies Into Your Practice. Recent grant-funded projects include a multi-site randomised controlled trial to evaluate a stepped care intervention for emergency medicine patients with panic-related anxiety and a randomised controlled trial of an online resilience training intervention to prevent depression and posttraumatic stress among frontline paramedics.
