Radiotherapy

• Usually over 4 - 6 weeks, Monday - Friday.
• It is recommended for the patient after breast conserving surgery.
• It is to lower the risk of local recurrence.
• Radiotherapy is also recommended if:
  • Cancer is >5cm
  • Four or more lymph nodes have cancer cells

Side Effects:

• Skin may become red, itchy and sensitive.
• Breast may become swollen and tender.
• After treatment, some breasts may become smaller or change to a slightly different shape due to fibrosis or scarring.
