Social prescribing is an innovative approach to connecting people with non-medical sources of support within their local community. It is a way of linking individuals to a range of local, non-clinical services, such as community groups, arts activities, and other voluntary and charity organisations.
This helps people to gain a greater understanding of their own wellbeing, while providing them with an opportunity to access meaningful activities and services that can help them to improve their mental and physical health.
Social prescribing encourages individuals to take an active role in managing their own health and wellbeing and can play an important role in supporting individuals to stay healthy and well.
Singapore Community of Practice in Social Prescribing (SCOMP) embodies a ground-up approach, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing driven by the passion and expertise of its members. SingHealth Community Hospitals Office of Learning (SCHOOL) is the dedicated secretariat to provide administrative and logistical support for SCOMP.
