A Walk, Picnic and Concert in the Park

A walk, picnic and concert in the park – more than 1,000 participants walked together to support needy patients in our community hospitals

Singapore, 2 March 2024 – More than 1,000 participants turned up at the Marina Barrage on Saturday evening, 2 March, to raise funds for needy patients at the SCH iWalk 2024.

Themed 'Walking for Hope and Recovery', the 2024 edition of the annual signature fundraising event organised by SingHealth Community Hospitals (SCH), comprised a scenic walk around Gardens by the Bay, followed by an enchanting evening picnic serenaded with musical performances.

Flagged off by Guest-of-Honour Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Communications & Information, participants had the option of doing a 2.5km or 5km walk, followed by a picnic together with family and friends and enjoying a concert in the park, presented by the Singapore Chinese Girls' School's Handbell Ensemble and local band Afterworkers – top 10 finalist of Mediacorp's Battle of the Buskers 2023 competition.

"Our fundraising initiative this year is a unique blend of physical activity, family bonding and musical festivity set against the stunning Marina Bay backdrop. SCH extends our heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support we have received for iWalk 2024. The donations will go towards the SCH Health Fund to support our cause in providing financial assistance to patients in need, and to run health-social integration programmes to help our patients get well, stay well and live well," said Associate Professor Gan Wee Hoe, Chief Executive Officer of SCH.

Close to $200,000 have been raised through iWalk this year. The money raised supports SCH's patients and caregivers who are in need, programmes for our patients, and education and research efforts to improve patient care. These donations will bridge the gap for patients who have exhausted all other sources of financial aid and enable them to have access to necessary treatment and care services through the SCH Health Fund.

Besides donations, corporates and organisations participated in iWalk 2024 as a show of solidarity to support SCH's cause. More than 400 corporate participants had registered for the event, with SMC Corporation (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. garnering close to 100 staff from their Singapore office to walk together for charity.

"SMC is thrilled to be part of SCH iWalk 2024. We are heartened by SCH's endeavour to enhance patient care, from easing financial burdens to advancing research and nurturing future healthcare providers. I wish for our SMC colleagues to mirror this commitment and strive to better ourselves to ensure a brighter, healthier future for all. We are proud of our colleagues who have come forward to show their support today," said Mr David Wong, Managing Director, SMC Corporation (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

All participants received an exclusive iWalk 2024 T-shirt and a goodie bag worth more than $50, which includes a picnic mat, drinks and snacks. SCH expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all donors, sponsors and partners for their generous contributions towards this charity event.
