Profile

While Dr Chew cares for patients of all ages, he is particularly committed to the care of children with congenital hand malformations, neuromuscular problems and injury to the upper limb. He combines knowledge of anatomy and child development with careful observation and patience to optimise their function.

Dr Chew received his undergraduate medical degree from the National University of Singapore and completed his advanced specialty training in hand surgery at the Singapore General Hospital. He spent a year of fellowship training in adult and paediatric hand surgery with Prof Michael Tonkin at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Australia. He completed a second year of fellowship training in paediatric hand surgery in the United States of America with Prof Marybeth Ezaki and Prof Scott Oishi at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, Texas, and with Prof Michelle James at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Northern California, Sacramento, California.

Dr Chew was a recipient of the 2010 Ministry of Health Training Scholarship and the inaugural Singapore Society for Hand Surgery Travelling Fellowship 2012.

He has been actively involved in teaching undergraduate medical students and hand surgery residents. He was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award 2015/16 by the SingHealth Residency Programme, and the Orthopaedic Teaching Excellence Award 2016 and 2017.

Dr Chew is married to Sharon and they have two children – Eleanor and Isaiah.
