ABOUT TRUEfund

“TRUE” presents Transplant Research, Unique care and Education. Established in 2010, the fund is set up for the benefit of needy transplant patients, public education campaigns for organ/tissue donation and transplantation, and transplantation research initiatives.

MISSIONS

TransplantResearch projects that can be translated to improvements in clinical outcomes

Unique patient care in terms of financial assistance to transplant patients to aid in areas that are overlooked by other sources of funding

Education of patient on how they can return to everyday life after transplant, and of the public on the benefits of organ/tissue donation and transplantation

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Transplant patients require long-term care after their transplant in order to keep their new organs healthy. This results in regular visits with their doctors, and life-long medication to prevent their bodies from rejecting the organs. In the period immediately after they receive their transplant, their weakened immunity and frequent visits to the doctor make it difficult for them to get an employment. The TRUEfund helps these patients tide over this period of financial difficulty, until they are able to support themselves again. In addition to this, transplant as a treatment option needs continual improvement in order to achieve better outcomes of transplanted patients. TRUEfund strives to support this in 2 ways:

1. Through the subsidy of training and education of healthcare professionals who are willing to specialise in the field of transplantation. It is important that our healthcare professionals are trained to care for and treat transplant patients at the highest standard. However, very little has been done locally to provide the necessary resources for such training.

2. Through providing seed funding for research projects that show potential in clinical outcome improvements. A few of such research studies are currently in progress, however, much more can be done to make advance in transplant care research possible.
