These preparations contain multivitamins with iron. Iron is needed to produce red blood cells to replenish the blood loss during delivery.
The dose is usually one tablet a day or as directed by your doctor. These medications are to be taken after food or as directed.
Iron may cause constipation, so drink extra fluid and increase intake of fruits and vegetables to prevent this. It may also cause darkening of the stools but this is harmless.
