Androgens - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Androgens cause?

Some common side effects that you may experience while on this medication are:

  • Mild nausea

  • Constipation

  • Stomach pain​​

  • Bloating of abdomen or stomach/water retention

  • Temporary loss of appetite

  • Change in sex drive

  • In women, it may cause menstrual dysregulation

These side effects tend to be transient as the body adjusts to the medicine. If they continue or become bothersome, check with the doctor.​

Inform the doctor if there is yellowing of skin, vomiting or swelling of the ankles and fingers.

For female patients, contact the doctor if there is any of the following:

  • Hoarseness or deepening of voice

  • Unnatural hair loss or excessive hair growth

  • Acne
