SKH-SCH GREEN WHEEL CAMPAIGN SETS RECORD IN SINGAPORE BOOK OF RECORDS FOR LARGEST E-WASTE COLLECTION CAMPAIGN

Singapore, 13 February 2026 – Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) and SingHealth Community Hospitals (SCH), supported by NTT DATA and Dell Technologies, have set a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the largest e-waste collection campaign. This achievement marks a proud moment for the hospitals, demonstrating how healthcare institutions can serve as catalysts for environmental change.

The SKH-SCH Green Wheel Campaign, held over six weeks from January to mid-February 2026, saw the green van visit the hospital campus eight times, inviting staff and the wider community to drop off electronic items, from mobile phones to laptops and printers, for responsible recycling. Through collective effort and community spirit, the amount of e-waste collected for this campaign far exceeded our target of 888 kilograms and we are expecting it to surpass 1,000 kilograms after all the e-waste has been weighed and verified.

Significant Environmental Impact
Our target of 888 kilograms of e-waste is equivalent to the weight of a small car or more than 1,000 laptops. This achievement is particularly significant within the context of the nationwide Green Wheel Campaign, which targets retiring up to five tonnes of e-waste across Singapore.

Recycling these items enables valuable materials to be recovered for reuse and prevents nearly 1 cubic metre of e-waste – equivalent to filling a standard wheelie bin 50 to 60 times, from entering landfills. The environmental benefits further include the avoidance of approximately 0.6 to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide emissions, comparable to driving a car for 2,400 to 3,000 kilometres, or about seven round trips between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Healthcare Leadership in Sustainability
SKH and SCH continue to integrate sustainability into their daily operations by reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and engaging the community in greener initiatives. This approach ensures that environmental stewardship is embedded alongside patient care, creating a holistic model for responsible healthcare delivery.

“This campaign shows that sustainability isn’t just an idea, it’s action in motion,” said Charity Wai, Chief Operating Officer at SKH. “By working together with our staff, community, and corporate partners, we are demonstrating that hospitals can lead in both healthcare and environmental responsibility.”

Driving Change Through Partnership
The Green Wheel Campaign is a nationwide initiative led by NTT DATA in collaboration with Dell Technologies to promote responsible e-waste recycling and sustainable IT asset retirement. Through an electric van travelling across Singapore, the campaign partners with organisations to collect and responsibly process legacy electronic equipment.

Beyond recycling, the initiative aims to recover value through reuse, reduce landfill waste, and raise awareness of sustainable consumption, supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and broader net-zero ambitions.

Serving as a collection site, SKH and SCH are at the forefront of collective sustainability action, showing how hospitals can champion both healthcare excellence and environmental stewardship.

"The synergy created through our partnership with industry leaders like NTT DATA and Dell Technologies has opened tremendous opportunities for meaningful environmental action," said Dr Tan Tai Kiat, Chief Operating Officer at SCH & Chief Operating Officer (Environmental Sustainability) at SingHealth. "We are deeply grateful for their commitment to this cause. This record represents more than numbers, it represents our collective commitment to a sustainable future and demonstrates what we can achieve when healthcare institutions and corporate partners unite for a common purpose."
