21 September 2020 - Metabolic syndrome affects about one in two seniors locally, increasing the risk of heart disease but lifestyle changes can help reverse it. According to Asst Prof Samuel Chew, Senior Consultant, Department of Geriatric Medicine, CGH added that regular aerobic exercise of moderate intensity for at least 30min daily has been shown to improve blood pressure, lipid profile, insulin sensitivity and reduce adverse cardiovascular outcomes associated with metabolic syndrome. Additionally, Lim Jiamin, Senior Physiotherapist, CGH demonstrated five exercises that seniors can do to keep active at home.
