Think binder clips are only useful for securing pieces of paper together? Think again! We’ve searched for some cool hacks online and tested them to find out exactly how versatile these clips are.
1. Ergonomic Keyboard
We spend long hours on the computer yet most of us are unaware of the strain this puts on our bodies. Over time, bad habits such as slouching or not keeping our computer screen at an optimal height or distance will impact our health. It is also important to set our keyboards at an appropriate angle to alleviate the tension in our wrists which could cause injury.
Most keyboards already come with an extendable ‘joint’ which allows you to elevate it. But what happens when you need it to be higher or if the joint breaks? We check to see if binder clips can come to the rescue.

The hack: Secure the two extendable ‘joints’ on the keyboard between the tabs of one binder clip, each. Place one of the binder clips’ metal end on your desk and another upright.
The results: PASS
This hack really works! The two binder clips help heighten the keyboard, making it more ergonomic, allowing your wrists to relax while typing.
2. Smartphone Stand
There are times where we need to prop our smart phones up, be it to catch up on our favourite TV shows or to take a photograph, hands-free. What if we could create a simple stand with something readily available in the office?

The original hack
The hack: Secure your phone between the tabs of two binder clips.
The results: FAIL
This hack would probably work if your phone was both slim and light. It did not work on our iPhone X as the binder clip tabs were too small and the phone was way too heavy.

3. Cable/Wire Organiser
There is nothing more frustrating than getting your earphones or charger wires tangled. Given that we now toggle between multiple electronic devices, finding ways to keep our wires organised and desktops neat is even more pertinent.
The hack: Wind or roll up loose wires and secure them using a binder clip.
The results: PASS
All it takes is a single binder clip and 30 seconds of your time to do away with knots for good!
4. Photo/Note Holders
Personalising your desk with fun memories of your family, friends and colleagues without taking up too much of space can be a reality! This hack can also be used to hold up important reminders.
The hack: Place the photograph or note between the two metal ends of the binder clip and stand it upright. To secure your new photo holders, use a little blutack under the clip.
The results: PASS
Get creative and paste a small piece of patterned paper or washi tape on the plain binder clip to get that extra ‘oomph!’
5. Dry & Clean Sponges
Damp kitchen sponges create good breeding grounds for bacteria. Is there a quick and easy way to keep our sponges fresh for longer?
The hack: Clip your sponge on one end with a binder clip and allow it to stand upright (similar to the photo holder method).
The results: PASS
Although this method does not guarantee to keep sponges bacteria-free, it does dry the sponge much quicker as compared to laying it flat. This way, sponges can be kept fresher and more hygienic.
