The SingHealth Duke-NUS Charity Golf 2024 brought 120 golfers together to tee off on the greens of Sentosa Golf Club on 31 July 2024. The event was a fun and meaningful opportunity to raise funds in support of medical education and research at five of our Academic Clinical Programmes (ACPs) - Cardiovascular Sciences, Musculoskeletal Sciences, Oral Health, Paediatrics and Surgery. Funds raised also support Duke-NUS Medical School students.
Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, was the Guest-of-Honour at the dinner after the golf game. Prof Tan Kok Chai and A/Prof Andrew Chin, who were the respective Chairman and Co-Chairman of the event’s Organising Committee, had donors pledge fresh donations if Minister Tan accepted their challenge to participate in a golf putting stage game. The contestants were given a minute each to make as many successful putts as possible.
To raise the stakes, an anonymous donor pledged $10,000 for every successful putt by the Minister. During the game, the dinner guests watched with bated breath and erupted into a rapturous cheer each time Dr Tan made a successful putt. In appreciation of the Minister’s gallant effort, the anonymous donor eventually made a gift of $100,000 which was five times his original pledge.
The dinner guests were in for other treats, with the top three golfers winning coveted golf drivers, sponsored by Nuri Holdings and the top lucky draw winner walking away with a smart massage chair, sponsored by OSIM.
