- Proceeds to benefit programmes run by Singapore Cancer Society, Singapore Hospice
Council, SingHealth Fund, Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital and Shan You
Singapore, 5 October 2024 – SingHealth has raised $1.31 million for the President’s Challenge
2024. This is the 20th year the public healthcare cluster has been fundraising for the community.
The amount raised was presented to Guest-of-Honour President Tharman Shanmugaratnam by
SingHealth Group CEO, Professor Ng Wai Hoe, at the SingHealth President’s Challenge (SHPC)
2024 Grand Finale event held at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) today.
Themed “Igniting Hope through Compassion”, the SHPC 2024 campaign was led by NCCS this
year. It rallied 33,000 SingHealth staff to raise funds for five adopted President’s Challenge
benefitting organisations – Singapore Cancer Society, Singapore Hospice Council, SingHealth
Fund, Ang Mo Kio - Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, and Shan You.
Fundraising and outreach activities included a pledge card donation drive, charity bazaars,
engagement activities and outings with clients of the adopted benefitting organisations. As a novel
addition this year, gashapon machines were made available on the SGH Campus for staff to play
for a good cause, with a portion of the proceeds going towards SHPC. The SHPC 2024 signature
event ‘SingHealth Lights Up Lives (LUL)’ was held on 31 August at the Promontory @ Marina Bay.
LUL featured a family carnival with games, food and fitness challenges, bringing together more
than 1,500 staff, families and benefitting organisations for an evening of fun while raising funds for
a worthy cause. The SingHealth event also successfully secured an entry into the Singapore Book
of Records with participants lighting up the night skies to form a giant glittering heart with their
mobile phone torchlights.
“Supporting President’s Challenge has been an annual feature of the SingHealth calendar since
2004. Our staff look forward to coming together to fundraise and make a positive difference to the
community. We hope the funds raised this year can ignite hope for those who need a helping hand,”
said Professor Ng Wai Hoe, SingHealth GCEO.
“In addition to fundraising, for this year’s campaign, we wanted to promote an active and healthy
lifestyle through fitness activities as an active lifestyle plays an important role in disease prevention,
enhancing mental health and overall well-being, regardless of one’s age or health condition. As
NCCS marks its 25th anniversary this year, the fundraising was especially meaningful and we are
grateful for all the support and contributions from our colleagues, partners and sponsors in making
the campaign a success!” said Dr Eileen Poon, Chairman, SingHealth President’s Challenge 2024,
and Senior Consultant, Division of Medical Oncology, NCCS.
