"I specialise in Computed Tomography (CT) and I have seen the modality gone through many changes throughout the years, from conventional CT to single slice CT to 4-slice Multi-slice CT (MSCT) and now dual source CT. It is incredible to see how image quality has improved with advances in technology, leading to more precise diagnosis by radiologists.
The greatest challenge in cardiac imaging is to capture the images of the rapidly moving heart and it’s even more challenging when the patient is an infant or an uncooperative child. However, these challenges and the complexity of the congenital heart problems attracted me to choose this specialty in the first place.
I feel a great sense of satisfaction when I obtain good 3D reconstruction from the images. These 3D images are helpful to the surgeons in their surgery planning. In order to have a nice piece of “art” (3D image), we need a good CT scanner and the ability to operate the scanner efficiently and apply knowledge of the physiology of the cardiac function.
I always feel very happy when my young patients hug and thank me after they finish their CT scan examination. It’s also heartening to see them feel a great sense of achievement for successfully undergoing their CT examinations."
