"For patients undergoing solid organ transplantation, dietitians are involved in their care from the pre-transplantation phase to the recovery phase after transplant surgery as well as post
transplant phase after discharge from hospital.
We evaluate their nutritional status, work with the patients on their nutrition goals and monitor their nutritional status regularly. We advise them to avoid eating pre-cut fruits sold at fruit stalls,
half boiled or raw eggs, raw fish, raw seafood and uncooked meat as these foods are potential sources of pathogens that can cause infection.
Some patients tend to gain weight a year after their kidney transplantation due to improved appetite and consumption of certain immunosuppressant drugs. If they are gaining too much weight, we’ll work closely with them for personalised nutrition recommendations to achieve and maintain their ideal weight in a healthy manner. This helps to lower their risk for diabetes, high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure."
