What is Ifosfamide for?

Ifosfamide is an intravenous chemotherapy used alone or in combination with other agents for the treatment of certain types of cancer.


Side Effects


What are some common side effects of Ifosfamide?

Early side effects

  • Mild nausea, vomiting or appetite loss may occur.
    There are medications available, which may prevent or decrease these side effects. If you are given these medications, take them as directed.
  • Transient lethargy or confusion.

Delayed side effects

  • A drop in the blood cell counts may occur a few days after treatment.
  • Temporary hair loss may occur 2 to 3 weeks after treatment.
  • Bladder irritation may occur, causing pain or blood in the urine.
    If you are given medication to protect the bladder (Mesna), please take it as directed.

Please seek medical attention if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher.
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools.
  • Blood in urine or pain on urination, with or without pain at the lower back or side.
  • Confusion or hallucinations.
  • Numbness or tingling in feet or hands.
  • Abnormal chest pain, irregular heartbeat or persistent swelling of the lower legs.
