What is Beclomethasone Nasal Spray for?

Beclomethasone Nasal Spray is used to relieve nasal symptoms related to allergic rhinitis. Beclomethasone belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids. Corticosteroids work by reducing inflammation, swelling and irritation in the nose caused by allergies. 

How should I take or use Beclomethasone Nasal Spray?

• Do not stop using your medication without first checking with your healthcare professional.
• Seek the advice of a doctor or healthcare professional if you are using this medication in someone below 18 years of age
• As it may take 1 to 2 weeks for the medication to work, continue using it even though you do not feel better immediately

Preparing  the device (also known as “Priming”)

• Priming is required for a new spray (or one that has not been used for a few days).

What should I do if I forget to take or use Beclomethasone Nasal Spray?

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed dose. 

What precautions should I take when taking or using Beclomethasone Nasal Spray?

Follow the dose as recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not use more than 4 sprays per nostril in 24 hours. 

Inform your healthcare professional if: 

• You are allergic to this medication or any of the other ingredients of this medication
• You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding 

What are some common side effects of Beclomethasone Nasal Spray?

• Nosebleeds
• Headaches
• Nose discomfort or irritation
  • This is usually temporary
  • Spray away from the centre of the nose to prevent this from happening

These side effects may or may not occur, but if they do, they should improve over time. Please approach your healthcare provider if they are bothersome or do not improve. 
 

What are some rare but serious side effects that I need to seek medical advice immediately?

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following: 

• Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
• Difficulty in breathing
• Itchy skin rashes over your whole body

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately

How should I store Beclomethasone Nasal Spray?

Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medication away from children. 

How do I throw away Beclomethasone Nasal Spray safely?

Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing it into the rubbish chute or bin.
