Dr Nicholas Tan is an Associate Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School.
Dr Tan subspecialises in glaucoma, where he provides comprehensive management with the latest medical and laser treatments, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and conventional filtration procedures. Additionally, his second speciality focus is in cataract surgery, using the latest techniques and intraocular lenses.
Dr Tan read medicine first at the University of Cambridge (MA, Hons) and thereafter in the University of Oxford (BM BCh), following a competitive academic route for top-performing students. He has been recognised with awards for academic excellence, such as for having the best First-Class results in his college at Cambridge. He subsequently obtained a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology, was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), and completed his specialist training under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME-International) at SNEC, where he received two gold medals for outstanding performance at his exit examinations.
As a Clinician Investigator at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), Dr Tan focuses on clinical and translational research bridging scientific discovery with clinical care. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, cited more than 3,000 times. Through ongoing research, he remains committed to delivering evidence-based care guided by the most current advances in ophthalmology.
