Dr Lau Wen Liang, Joel is a Consultant in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and the National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCCS). He holds an MBBS from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and postgraduate qualifications including MRCS (Edinburgh), Master of Medicine (Surgery), and FRCS (Edinburgh). He is accredited as a Specialist in General Surgery by the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board.
With a subspecialty interest in Head and Neck and Endocrine Surgery, Dr Lau trained in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at SGH before completing an overseas fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Churchill Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital) from September 2024 to June 2025.
Dr Lau's clinical interests lie in the surgical management of thyroid nodules, thyroid cancers, Graves' disease, parathyroid disorders (hyperparathyroidism), and adrenal nodules. He is proficient in transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy, offering patients a scarless surgical option, and served as Co-Course Director of the APTS 2026 Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Cadaveric Workshop. In addition, he is trained in Acute Care Surgery and General Surgery competencies, including laparoscopic inguinal hernia (TEP) surgery and endoscopic procedures for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
