Hong Yanqi, Advanced Practice Nurse, NCCS

“Nurses’ roles have evolved over the years. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, I am authorised to perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, a procedure previously only done by doctors.”

As an Advanced Practice Nurse working in the Ambulatory Treatment Unit (ATU), I review and manage patients who have developed chemotherapy-related side effects or complications. I am also authorised to perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, a procedure which was previously only done by doctors.

I believe that nurses today have so much to look forward to. Over the past decade, our role has vastly expanded and there are now numerous career paths that are available within the profession. With these opportunities, I could continue to learn and upgrade myself to provide the best care for our patients.
