Scooting with Freedom & Independance

Because of a toe ulcer that did not heal, Mdm Yati had to undergo a procedure to unblock her leg arteries. After her surgery, she was warded in Sengkang Community Hospital (SKCH) for wound care and rehabilitation. As it was a major surgery, her recovery has been slow and difficult. She could not walk unassisted but the cost of a motorised scooter was far beyond her financial means.

For years, Mdm Yati had dedicated herself to being a full-time stay-home mother for her young daughter. Her husband, who is the sole breadwinner, had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and relies on a motorised scooter himself to get to work.

With the help of a Medical Social Worker from SKCH, Mdm Yati was able to obtain a motorised scooter with subsidies from the SCH Health Fund. The mobility device gave her freedom, independence and more importantly, the ability to return to the workforce and support her family for a better future.

Mdm Yati hopes that her story could motivate more people to make a gift to the SCH Health Fund and support patients like her. The SCH Health Fund not only supports needy patients and provides interim financial assistance in their recovery journey but also supports our work in clinical care, research and education, and patient support programmes.

Your gift can support our patients and give them a chance at a better future.
