Whispers of Hope

Our SCH palliative care team has been introducing several programmes for our patients nearing end-of-life, celebrating their lives and supporting caregivers.

As Dr Loo Yuxian, Director, SCH's Palliative and Supportive Care puts it aptly:

"Working with our palliative patients has been profoundly meaningful. We bring comfort, joy and dignity to those facing life-limiting illnesses, helping them to create precious memories in their final days. It's a sacred privilege to offer peace to our patients and their families during this critical time."

Here are snippets of our palliative patient programmes at SCH! Let us continue to bring light to our patients' darkest hours, and turn their final chapter into one with meaning, hope and joy.

Happy Hour / Happy Friday
Once a month, our multi-disciplinary team engages patients with games and treats like ice cream and facial masks. These joyful moments are captured and shared with their families.

Fulfilling Last Wishes
SCH's palliative care team partners Ambulance Wish, a non-profit organisation, to fulfill the last wishes of some of our terminally ill patients.  Examples include a renowned composer attending a concert in his honour, and a music lover participating in a personalised "Golden Oldies" karaoke session.

Bringing Festive Joy
On different occasions, our palliative care team will spruce up the ward and function rooms with decorations, involving patients and their families in traditional celebrations and games to bring festive joy.

Meaningful time at Oasis
Our palliative patients at OCH enjoy lunchtime activities such as games, crafts and calligraphy, spending quality time with accompanying loved ones at HCA Hospice@Oasis.

Therapy with Dogs
Our patients get to interact with therapy dogs through SOSD's (Save Our Street Dogs) Healing Paws programme, where volunteers and their dogs bring cheer to our hospitals.

Living A Legacy Behind
Our palliative care team, with support from art therapy interns from Lasalle, help patients create legacy items for their loved ones.

In Remembrance Of…
Our palliative care team organises memorial services for families and the care team of late patients. These include speeches by ward staff, video montages of the precious moments captured during patients' final days, tribute songs, and a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the dearly departed.
