Profile

Dr Wee is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist with the General Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). 
 
Dr Wee graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1990. He obtained his Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) of Singapore in 1995 and was also admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) that same year. He completed his fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Corneo-Plastic Unit and Eye Bank of Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust, East Grinstead, United Kingdom in 1999.
 
Upon his return to Singapore, Dr Wee joined the Refractive Surgery Service of the Singapore National Eye Centre and was promoted to Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist of SNEC in 2006. In 2006, he was admitted as a Fellow to the Academy of Medicine (Singapore). 
 
His current and past external appointments include medical board president appointments to the Singapore Armed Forces, board member to SingHealth Centralised Institutional Review Board as well as selected committees of the Singapore Medical Council.
 
Dr Wee has been active in research in the field of refractive surgery and in particular LASIK. He was a clinical investigator to several major global clinical trials including the Wavefront-guided LASIK and Aspheric LASIK trials, Acufocus Implant trial for presbyopia and the Personalized Aspheric LASIK trial.
 
He has also been active in the teaching of LASIK and cataract surgery. He had conducted numerous teaching courses and in-service programmes regionally and internationally. He has contributed book chapters in the areas of LASIK and refractive surgery.  He was a certified trainer for Bausch & Lomb and is also an Asia-Pacific Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APSCRS) Certified Educator.
