Dr Yeo is a Senior Consultant neurologist at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI), Singapore, with clinical and research interests in neuroimmunological diseases. He currently runs a weekly neuroimmunology clinic at NNI, taking care of patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD), Autoimmune Encephalitis and other immune-mediated CNS diseases.
In 2016, Dr Yeo was awarded the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Singapore Research Fellowship Award to pursue a PhD at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professors Daniel Anthony and Jacqueline Palace. His PhD focused on applying metabolomics in neuroimmunological diseases for biomarker discovery in human cohorts and investigating the metabolic perturbations associated with pathological processes in animal models of neuroinflammation. Dr Yeo was conferred his PhD in 2020.
Dr Yeo is actively involved in research on neuroimmunological diseases, and has lectured and presented at major regional and international MS conferences. His main research interest focuses on unravelling the molecular underpinnings in which environmental factors contribute to neuroinflammation, and in so doing, formulate potential interventions to alleviate neuroinflammation. In line with this research theme, he applied for and was awarded the NMRC Transition Award in 2021 to investigate the gut microbiome and metabolome and their relationship with systemic and neuroinflammation in Asian MS and NMOSD patients.
Dr Yeo holds a position of Assistant Professor at both Duke-NUS Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU). He is also the Deputy Director of Brain Bank Singapore. Within NNI, he sits on several committees including the NNI Tissue Bank Tissue Release Committee and he is the Research Lead for both the Department of Neurology (NNI@TTSH campus) and the NNI Neuroimmunology-Neuroinflammation Programme. He is also involved in the clinical and research training of medical students, and provides continuous guidance of Neurology Senior Residents. Dr Yeo has received several awards for his clinical work, research and education.
