Profile

Dr Poon graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan in 1995. He obtained his Master of Science in Orthopaedics from University of London, University College London in 1998. He completed his Orthopaedic Residency Training Programme and Adult Reconstruction Hip and Knee Advanced Residency Training under the mentorship of Professor Gwo Jaw Wang at the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital. He received one year of Postgraduate Orthopaedic Training at London Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, under the mentorship of Professor George Bentley. He underwent Knee Osteotomy and Joint Preservation fellowship at Toyama Municipal Hospital under the Mentorship of Professor Takeshi Sawaguchi.

Dr Poon is the Head and Senior Consultant of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of Adult Reconstruction Service at Sengkang General Hospital who specialises in the management of adult knee and hip joint replacement surgeries using minimally invasive techniques. His speciality also includes complex knee and hip joint surgeries as well as knee joint preservation surgery.

For his dedication to patient service, he has received numerous awards including the You Sparkle – Gold Award in 2018, the Singapore Health Quality Service Award – Silver Service Award in 2019 and You-Sparkle – Star Award in 2020. In addition, Dr Poon is committed to medical education and research in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is actively involved in organizing and teaching Orthopaedic Training Courses both in Singapore and Overseas. Dr Poon holds concurrent appointments of Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU.
