In the Security and Fire Safety Department at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), Mohamed Bin Zakariah, Senior Security Officer, is known to be a sincere and earnest individual who is well-liked by his colleagues. As part of his daily duties, he is always on constant alert for security requests that are put through the hospital’s main emergency number.

Mohamed recalled an incident when he had to manage a situation where an upset father of a patient was very agitated. As Mohamed was trying to calm him down, the father suddenly got physically, causing Mohamed to topple onto the floor resulting in bruises on his face. The father fled the scene and a police report was made. Mohamed’s injuries were also attended to. Although Mohamed recalled being distressed, he was also empathetic because as a parent himself, he could relate to the anxiety that the father must have felt for his sick child.

Mohamed is also known for his cooking talent as he would occasionally treat his teammates to his home-cooked dishes, much to their delight. In fact, it was their encouragement that spurred him to participate in the SingHealth President’s Challenge Fundraiser in 2014 and 2015 by selling his delicious food for charity. “I am delighted that I am able to raise money for a good cause while doing something I enjoy,” said Mohamed, adding that nothing makes him happier than keeping peace at work and cooking up a storm at home!
