What is Etoposide Injection for?

Etoposide Injection is an intravenous chemotherapy used alone or in combination with other agents for the treatment of certain types of cancer.


Side Effects


What are some common side effects of Etoposide Injection?

Early side effects

  • Nausea, vomiting or appetite loss may occur.
    There are medications available, which may prevent or decrease these side effects. If you are given these medications, take them as directed.
  • Allergic reaction may occur.
    Alert your nurse if you experience any shortness of breath, chest discomfort, chills, flushing or dizziness during the infusion.

Delayed side effects

  • A drop in the white blood cell counts may occur 7 to 14 days after treatment.
  • Temporary hair loss may occur, which may begin within a few days or weeks from treatment.
  • Diarrhea may occur.
  • Mouth ulcers and/or tenderness may occur.

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher.
  • Chills and rigors.
  • Sore throat, hoarseness or mouth sores.
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools.
