Dr. Annabelle Leong

Consultant ENT Surgeon/Otologist

Dr Annabelle Leong is an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon with over fifteen years of ENT experience, having trained and worked in the United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore. She manages all types of ENT conditions, including nasal, sinus and sleep disorders in both adults and children. She has subspecialty interests in hearing and dizziness/balance disorders, and paediatric ENT. She was previously the Head of the Hearing Implant and Vestibular/Balance Services at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore, providing specialist care, including a cochlear implant program, for the multitude of patients with hearing loss and balance/ dizziness problems. She continues to undertake regular sessions as Visiting Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Dr Leong received her MBBS with Distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, UK and also won the Roger Warwick Prize in ENT and Negas Cawthorne Essay Prize in ENT as an undergraduate. She has managed a wide range of both paediatric and adult ENT conditions throughout her postgraduate specialist training in London, UK at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, the Evelina Children’s Hospital, the Hearing Implant centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, Charing Cross Hospital, King’s college hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology/Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square. She is currently registered with both the General Medical Council in United Kingdom and the Singapore Medical Council as a specialist in Otolaryngology.

She is the first and presently still the only Singaporean recipient of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) National Temporal Bone Prize for displaying the best surgical skill in ear dissection in the United Kingdom.  She was then awarded the prestigious Thomas-Wickham-Jones (TWJ) ear fellowship in hearing, dizziness/balance and skull base disorders at Toronto General Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto, Canada.

Dr Leong was the Associate Program Director of the National Health Group (NHG) ENT residency specialist training scheme and senior clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin medical school (National University of Singapore).  She continues to nurture her passion for teaching and research in ENT and is regularly invited to lecture at overseas courses.  She is a member of the faculty at clinical dissection workshops and national residency courses in Singapore.

Dr Leong wholeheartedly believes in delivering optimal patient care supported by evidence-based clinical practice. This approach earned her a Service Champion award from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in 2016. Her passion for clinical research has culminated in numerous peer-reviewed publications and the regional Kilcoyne Prize in London for Best Original ENT Research.  She regularly reviews research papers for academic ENT journals such as Clinical Otolaryngology. She always strives to involve patients fully in the clinical decision-making process, providing them and their families with a thorough explanation of their condition so that they may make an informed decision.  Dr Leong also regularly undertakes volunteer work as an ENT specialist for charity medical missions in Thailand, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. She is kept busy in her spare time by her two young and very active sons.
