Dr Yuen Heng Wai graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997 and was conferred the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000. He received the National Healthcare Group Overseas Fellowship award in 2002 and spent one year doing basic science research on Head and Neck Cancer biology at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. His work there was published in the prestigious journal – Experimental Cell Research. In 2004, he was awarded Masters of Medicine in Otorhinolaryngology by the National University of Singapore. He was also conferred the Diploma of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2005. In addition, he was also awarded the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine by the National University of Singapore and the College of Family Physician in 2006. In 2007, he completed his residency in Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery, and was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore. Subsequently, he was awarded the prestigious Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship from the Ministry of Health for higher surgical training. He completed his advanced subspecialty training in Otology, Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, Canada where he trained with renowned ear surgeons Professor Julian M. Nedzelski and Professor Joseph M. Chen. He received extensive training in ear surgery for chronic ear diseases, otosclerosis, hearing implants, and skull base tumors. Subsequently, he did further training in the Ear  Science Institute Australia, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, University of Western Australia, Perth with Professor Marcus D. Atlas where he received advanced surgical training in middle ear and cochlear implants.


Dr Yuen is currently Senior Consultant ENT surgeon with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery in Changi General Hospital where he is spearheading the Otology, Neurotology and Hearing Implant services. Besides patients with general otolaryngology problems, he has special interests in seeing patients with all forms of ear problems including hearing loss, dizziness and balance problems, facial nerve problems, and ear tumors.
