Dr Lee Yee Mei
Deputy Director of Nursing and Advanced Practice Nurse
National University Cancer Institute Singapore
As the first Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the National University Cancer Institute Singapore (NCIS) since 2006, Yee Mei is pivotal in shaping the clinical practice and care models at both NCIS and NUH. She brings extensive experience in clinical practice, evidence-based care, and innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of cancer care.
Upon completing her doctorate programme and in the 7 years where she helmed NCIS’ Division of Oncology Nursing, Yee Mei was instrumental in driving progressive and innovative practices through new care models and initiatives. Under her guidance and collaborated with key stakeholders, NCIS witnessed the birth of APN-led Urgent Care Clinic, Acute Cancer Care Unit, and Short Stay Ward outpatient services. Steering the right-siting initiatives not only improved the patient experience, it also resulted in a decrease in emergency room visits and length of stay. Through her visionary leadership to extend care beyond hospital walls, NCIS was the first in Singapore to deliver cancer treatment for patients at their homes and in the community.
As she transits to a new role, she spearheads the Nursing Professional Development portfolio which include advancing nursing practice, developing emerging nursing roles, and transforming geriatric-palliative nursing practices, research, and training and education. As Co-Chair of the NUH Palliative and End-of-Life Taskforce, she continues to elevate end-of-life care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, working in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
