Profile

Dr Yap Zhu Li obtained her Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2009. She started her residency at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) in 2012, obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2015 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK) in 2017, gaining accreditation as a specialist Ophthalmologist in the same year. After her glaucoma fellowship at SNEC, she was awarded the HMDP scholarship and completed a second fellowship in Advanced Glaucoma and Complex Anterior Segment Surgery at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK.

She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme and a Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. Dr Yap regularly trains fellows, medical students, residents and allied health professionals. She was consecutively appointed Lead Resident, Lead Senior Resident and Chief Resident during her training.

Passionate about giving back to the community, Dr Yap is very active in humanitarian work, both at home and abroad. These include community health screening and mobile clinics as well as engaging with The Vision Mission, The Fred Hollows Foundation and The Myanmar Eye Care Project. She is currently the lead of the Outreach and Advocacy arm of SNEC-Global Ophthalmology.

She is involved in research investigating novel drugs, devices and surgery for the treatment of glaucoma and co-authored several book chapters and reference texts on ophthalmology. Her current clinical practice includes glaucoma, complex cataract and anterior segment surgery as well as general cataract and comprehensive ophthalmology.
