Profile

Dr Chonkar Sonali is a Senior Staff Physician and Lead for Education with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at KKH. She is also Deputy Clerkship co-ordinator for OBGYN clerkship (Duke NUS School of Medicine).

Dr Chonkar graduated as Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and then attained her Master of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from Seth G.S Medical College & K.E.M Hospital in India. She then completed her Diplomate of National Board in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in India and went on to become a Member of Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, London. She did her Fellowship in MIS surgery with KKH and also completed a Fellowship in Medical Education with Academic Medicine Education Institute (AM.EI), Singapore.

Dr Chonkar is highly regarded as a professional doctor discharging her duties with dedication and compassion. Her main area of interest is General Obstetrics and Gynaecology and medical education. She is deeply passionate about medical education through her role as Lead for Education as well as Deputy Clerkship co-ordinator for OBGYN clerkship- Duke NUS at KKH. She is also the Lead for procedural skills and core faculty for CARE program at Duke NUS School of Medicine. She mentors medical students across all three medical schools in Singapore. In recognition for her excellent work she has received numerous accolades such as “Singhealth Duke NUS AM.EI-GOLDEN APPLE award” (2014), “Duke-NUS Medical School Leadership Award”(2019), “Singhealth Quality Service STAR Award”(2019), “Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence”( 2018/2014/2013)Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, “KK People Developer (KKPD) Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award” (2014) and “Duke-NUS Medical School Faculty Appreciation Award” from 2011 till date.

She was the Chief Editor for the 2nd Edition of the book “A Practical Handbook in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for OBGYN Clinicians and the General Practitioner” which bagged the Highly Commended Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology category by British Medical Association.
