Upon completing his specialist training, he worked as a Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge before returning to Singapore to work at the National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore as a Consultant.
Whilst at NUH, he was heavily involved in the training of future geriatricians both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He was also heavily involved in administration most notably with Clinical Informatics having served as the Deputy Chief Medical Information Officer (Medicine).
Dr Melvin Chua subsequently sought a new challenge with Sengkang General Hospital joining the team to set up Singapore's newest hospital.
