Profile

Dr Edward Choke is presently a Senior Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Sengkang General Hospital. He graduated with first class honours MBBS from the University of Sydney and undertook specialist training in General and Vascular Surgery in Oxford between 2006 and 2010. In 2010 he was appointed the Clinical Lecturer/Specialist Registrar at the vascular unit in Leicester Royal Infirmary. He received training in complex tertiary level vascular and endovascular surgery, including complex abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysm repairs (open, endovascular or hybrid techniques) and complex carotid surgery. He was one of three UK trainees in 2012 to receive the competitive British Society of Endovascular Therapy Endovascular Fellowship which advanced his skills in peripheral angioplasties and hybrid techniques for complex multilevel occlusive or stenotic disease.

Besides clinical excellence, he is also passionate about clinical and basic science research as part of improving the quality of care for patients. He undertook award winning scientific research between 2003 and 2006 at St George's Vascular Institute, leading to a PhD from the University of London. He was the recipient of the American Heart Association Merit Award for Junior Investigators, the UK Medical Research Society Prize and the International Meeting for AAA Prize. He is the principal investigator of research grants from the British Heart Foundation, Wellcome Trust, Academy of Medical Sciences and Circulation Foundation (George Davies Visionary Award). He has over 100 publications in peer reviewed international journals including high impact journals such as European Heart Journal, Circulation, ATVB, the British Journal of Surgery. He has written 5 book chapters in vascular surgery and is regularly invited to review manuscripts from international journals. He is also regularly invited to speak at key international conferences including the Charing Cross 35th Vascular Symposium in London. He is a keen teacher and am a faculty member of DUKE-NUS and NUS-YLL School of Medicine and the University of Edinburgh/Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh ChM in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
