Lenvatinib - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Lenvatinib cause?

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or stomach discomfort
  • Decreased appetite and weight loss
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Joint and muscle ache
  • Palms of the hands or soles of the feet may become numb, sore, red or dry
  • Increased blood pressure
    Monitor your blood pressure closely. Discuss a proper follow-up plan with your doctor.
  • Mouth sore or ulcer
    Keep your mouth clean by brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth after every meal.
  • Voice hoarseness

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Rapid heartbeat or chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Sudden swelling of both legs and feet
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin and dark-tea coloured urine
  • Unusual weakness, tiredness or light-headedness
  • Pain while urinating
  • Unusual muscle cramps or numbness
  • Severe diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
  • Signs of unusual bleeding: bruising, black sticky stools

Before taking Lenvatinib, what precautions must I follow?

  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any other medical conditions e.g. heart problems, high blood pressure.
  • Do not take medications and supplements without informing your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Use effective birth control during and for at least one month after stopping treatment with Lenvatinib. Inform your doctor if you or your partner, plan for or suspect pregnancy.
