The SKH Occupational Medicine Clinic

The Occupational Medicine team at Sengkang General Hospital provides specialised assessment and care for patients facing work-related health challenges — including occupational diseases, fitness to work and return-to-work evaluations.

Occupational Medicine (OM) specialists are trained to understand the complex relationship between work and health. We are familiar with the physical, psychological, and regulatory demands of various industries and job roles.

Our goal is to support patients in remaining employable and productive, while ensuring their work is safe and conducive to good health.

SUITABLE REFERRALS

You may refer to us if your patient has any of thefollowing:

• Suspected occupational disease (e.g., contact dermatitis, noise-induced hearing loss)
• Pre-employment screening for strenuous or safety-critical roles
• Work-related injuries
• Abnormal findings on statutory medical examinations
• Chronic conditions impacting fitness to work
• Medical leave exceeding recommended duration or difficulty returning to work
• Fitness-for-duty evaluations post-major illness (e.g., post-myocardial infarction, stroke)
• Temporary or permanent incapacity assessments (under Work Injury Compensation Act)

OUR SERVICES

We also work closely with SKH’s network of medical specialties and allied health professionals to provide comprehensive assessments tailored to the patient’s job and medical condition. Services include:

• Audiometry
• Functional Capacity Evaluations
• Lung Function Tests
• Skin Prick and Patch Testing
• Workplace Assessment e.g., as part of Return-to-Work programmed (expenses claimable under WICA); investigation of occupational health hazards

Shared Care Approach –Supporting GPs in the care of your patients

OM will assess the patient and provide our inputs to support the GP as well as Designated Workplace Doctors (DWD) in the care of your patients.

GP and DWD may also request OM to interface with the patient’s employer and the Ministry of Manpower in the management of more complex cases or to fulfil statutory requirements.

Our focus is workplace health. Chronic medical conditions will remain under the care of the patient’s trusted GP or family physician. We strongly encourage shared care and communication between GPs and OM specialists to improve patient outcomes holistically.
