Studies have shown that diabetes and heart failure are interlinked - up to 35% of heart failure patients are diabetic, and diabetic patients have up to a four times higher risk of developing heart failure. Diabetes is a predictor of mortality and morbidity in heart failure, and heart failure patients with poor glycaemic control have been shown to have higher mortality as well. Both are chronic diseases with multiple complications, and require effective shared care between primary care physicians and cardiologists to improve outcomes. Read more
 

Energy Intake a Significant Risk Factor for
Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Energy-Intake-a-Significant-Risk-Factor-for-Non-alcoholic-Fatty-Liver-Disease In a study of 34 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and 34 controls with chronic hepatitis B, the total calorie, macronutrient and fructose intake in NAFLD patients were found to be significantly higher. Logistic regression analysis showed that waist circumference and energy intake were significant risk factors for NAFLD - supporting the importance of healthy eating habits for managing this condition.Read more
