Vascular tumours and malformations range from mild to severe and can lead to significant physical, psychological and emotional impairment. Specific treatments are now available for the management of many of these conditions, and accurate classification is crucial as inaccurate diagnoses may lead to inappropriate treatments with suboptimal outcomes. Vascular anomalies that are more complex, such as Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS), should be managed under the care of a multidisciplinary team, as a combination of various treatments may be required for optimal results. A recent Singapore-based study has found that patients with diabetes who are also underweight have a much higher risk of active tuberculosis (TB) than their heavier counterparts. Using data of over 60,000 middle-aged to older adults from the population-based study, the Singapore Chinese Health Study, its findings support calls for TB screening among these patients.
