Study Links Insufficient Sleep to Premature Ageing
In a recent study, the sleep patterns of over 480 healthy Singaporeans were analysed through data collected from wearable technology. Researchers also studied whole-genome data to evaluate telomere lengths - compound structures of DNA that decline in length as one ages - as an estimation of biological age. The results provide evidence for a link between chronic sleep deprivation and premature aging, as well as increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Read more

Detecting Young Onset Dementia
The number of new patients with young onset dementia (YOD) (<65 years) is on the rise in Singapore, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause. Today, amyloid PET imaging plays a crucial role in the differential diagnosis of YOD due to AD in young patients with atypical presentation, such as those who present with prominent neuropsychiatric symptoms and cognitive impairment. When Stopping Antibiotics Early May Help Patients
Contrary to popular belief that one must finish the course of antibiotics, a SGH study of 12,000 patients found that stopping intake early could be beneficial when there is no bacterial infection - saving millions in treatment costs, and protecting patients from harmful side effects. Read more
