Health Screenings: Top 5 Health Concerns for Men
Some of the top five health conditions affecting men are “silent killers”, where symptoms, if any, only appear at a very late stage.

That’s because the so-called tougher sex is actually more susceptible to many conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, say experts at the Health Assessment Centre, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), a member of the SingHealth group.

For example, colorectal cancer has become the most common cancer for men, with Singapore having one of the highest incidences of the cancer in Asia. Read more

 
Food Intolerances: Carbohydrates & Fructose
Symptoms such as abdominal pain, flatulence and diarrhoea may point to food intolerances such as carbohydrates and fructose intolerances.

“Carbohydrates intolerance appears to be more common in individuals who have an underlying functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder, such as irritable bowel syndrome,” says Jasly Koo, Dietitian, from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a member of the SingHealth group.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Symptoms, Risks & Treatment
As the most common autoimmune rheumatic disorder, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) affects around one percent of the population, which is equivalent to about 45,000 people in Singapore.

It affects all races and most frequently begins at 20 to 45 years of age, with 75 percent of patients being female. Sometimes, a person may not realise for a long period of time that he has RA, as the symptoms may be as subtle as persistent tiredness and mild joint stiffness. Read more
