Robot Conducts Safe, Faster, and More Comfortable Covid-19 Swab Tests
The made-in-Singapore 'SwabBot' carries out nasal swabbing to diagnose Covid-19, and allows patients to fully control the process so they are more comfortable. It also addresses the limitations and risks of manual swabbing by reducing swabbers' risk of exposure and the need for training people, standardising the consistency of swabs taken, and increasing the efficiency of conducting these tests.
The robot was developed by clinicians from the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Duke-NUS Medical School, in collaboration with medical robotics company Biobot Surgical.
