Call for Abstracts

SingHealth Duke-NUS Surgical & Anaesthesia Congress 2019 (SingHealth SAC 2019) offers many opportunities to present your work, explore and establish collaborations as well as engage with colleagues. The committee invites you to submit abstracts for inclusion in the scientific programme of SingHealth SAC 2019. You may submit any scientific research pertaining to your sub-specialty. 


Abstract Categories

Abstracts will be classified under specific categories for review and programme purposes. Authors are invited to submit their abstracts under the following categories:

  • Musculoskeletal Sciences
  • Surgery
  • Anaesthesiology & Perioperative Sciences
  • Allied Health
  • Nursing

*Students affiliated with SingHealth institutions (e.g. Medical students from Duke-NUS, NUS YLLSoM, LKCMedicine, nursing or allied health students from polytechnics and all local institutions of higher learning) are encouraged to submit abstracts in any of the above categories.


Guidelines for Abstract Submission

A. GENERAL RULES

Language

  • Only abstracts written in English will be accepted for submission.

Types of Presentation

  • Oral presenters will be given five minutes to present their research findings with two minutes for discussion.
  • Moderated poster presenters will be given one minute to present their research findings with two minutes for discussion.
  • Unmoderated posters will be displayed at designated areas throughout the Congress.

Correspondence 

  • Abstract submissions must include all authors' information. This information shall include the first and last names of all authors and their co-authors (if any), their department, institution/hospital, city, state if applicable and country. 
  • Abstracts must contain original scientific data collected by the author(s) and should not exceed 300 words (excluding title). 
  • All abstracts will be reviewed by the committee. 
  • The committee reserves the right to determine whether submissions are accepted as oral or poster presentations.

Abstract Receipt Confirmation

  • Upon successful submission, authors will receive an automated acknowledgement via email. 
  • If no acknowledge email is received, this will indicate that the abstract submission is not successful. Please contact us at SAC2019@singhealth.com.sg if you encounter this issue. 
  • Abstracts must be received by 19th August 2019. Withdrawal of abstracts upon submission is not allowed.
  • Abstracts received after this date will not be accepted.

Abstract Receipt Confirmation

  • Results of abstracts accepted for presentation will be announced from 26 August 2019 and presenting authors will be notified by email.
  • The decision of the committee is final. 

 

B. IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

  • Abstract submission deadline: Monday, 19 August 2019
  • Notification of acceptance: From Monday, 26 August 2019
  • Last day for early bird registration for abstract presenters: Friday, 13 September 2019

 

C. HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACTS

  • Abstracts can only be submitted electronically through the Event Management Portal at events.singhealth.com.sg from Monday, 24 June 2019.
  • Abstracts sent by post or email will not be accepted.
  • Before submitting the abstract online, presenting authors are required to creat an account.
  • Please refer to the General Submission Guidelines below for details.
  • The final date for all abstracts submissions is 19 August 2019. Abstracts received after this date will not be accepted.

D. GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Abstracts will be judged solely on the basis of the material submitted in the abstract.
  • Structure 
    • The title must be brief, concise, and in CAPITAL LETTERS. 
    • The title and abstract submission should not exceed 300 words and be written in prose. 
    • The abstract should be formatted using section headings of Introduction, Objective, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusion.
    • List no more than 8 individual authors/co-authors for each abstract. The name of the affiliated institution(s) and department(s); city and the country; contact information of all first author/presenter and co-authors should be included. 
    • The committee reserves the rights to redact any submission.
    • Do not include references in the abstract.
    • Abbreviations should be spelled out, in parentheses, in its first use in the abstract.

 

E. PRESENTATION

  • The presenting author of an accepted abstract is required to register for the congress.

 

F. INFORMATION ON AWARDS

  • The following will be awarded: 
    • Best Oral Presentation 
    • Best Moderated Poster and merit awards
