Goh Mei Lian, Staff Nurse, Nursing NNI

Whenever there is a call for volunteers to help out in events and community outreach programmes, you can bet that Mei Lian would be the first in the line. “By volunteering my time, it makes my work as a nurse more fulfilling. I gain knowledge and skills beyond my work scope, helping me be a better person and a better nurse,” Goh Mei Lian, Staff Nurse, NNI, enthused.

Mei Lian remembers fondly of an outing to the S.E.A. Aquarium in Sentosa with members from the Dementia Support Group back in November 2016. While it was daunting to oversee a large group of patients and caregivers, the sight of them relaxing and enjoying themselves spurred her on and she attributed the success of the event to the patients’ caregivers. Inspired by their resilience in overcoming the challenges faced when caring for people with dementia, their unwavering spirit reinforced her commitment to provide the best care for her patients.

During the 2015 National Day Parade, Mei Lian was part of the SingHealth marching contingent. With her friendly personality, she made many new friends with people from other institutions. It was also particularly memorable as her daughter was in the same parade as a participant in the National Police Cadet Corps contingent. Truly #motherdaughter goals!
