Giving with a Heart

Jeraymin Yong, Senior Nurse Manager, Operating Theatres, SGH

In the 20 years that Jeraymin has been with SGH, volunteering has always been close to her heart.

In 2011 and 2019, she took part in overseas missions organised by SingHealth to Cambodia and Myanmar, lending her expertise as a scrub nurse to surgeries and exchanging skills with the local doctors and nurses in the military hospitals. Jeraymin also shared her knowledge with the nurses at Calmette Hospital in Yangon in a one-day training session on orthopaedic care.

Her drive to lend a helping hand continued back home, as she enthusiastically volunteered in many charity events organised by SingHealth. Her most memorable one was Project Groom-Over in 2015, 2016 and 2018, where she joined other volunteers to help spring clean the homes of elderly residents in neighbourhoods around SGH.

“Every Groom-Over session is memorable, especially when I see the residents touched and happy that their homes are as good as new again. They were always very grateful for our help, and their appreciation makes me feel proud of myself,” she said.

“Volunteering gives me a sense of achievement when I can make a difference to the lives of others” she added. “I hope I can continue on this volunteering journey for as long as I am able to.”
